The Goddard Mansion, located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine near the Portland Headlight, was completed in 1858 for John Garrard to an Itialanate villa design prepared by Portland architect Charles Alexander. It was built of native stone and was one of the first grand houses to be built along the Cape Elizabeth shore. The mansion was acquired by the U. S. Army long after Goddard's death and was used for housing married enlisted men and their families stationed at Fort Williams. The basement was converted into the fort's Non-Commissioned Officers Club.
